Justin Fields will have at least one more shot as the Steelers’ starting quarterback.
Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin said in his press conference Friday that Russell Wilson had a good week but will likely be the No. 2 QB for Sunday’s game against Las Vegas.
“He has proven his health, now it’s just about that knock off the rust” said Tomlin, via Mike DeFabo of TheAthletic.com. “He’ll probably be active as the No. 2 quarterback. I like what I saw out here. But again, health and rust are two different things.
“I thought he had a good week and showed his health and his ability to protect himself. And now it’s just a matter of getting used to the ball again.”
Wilson was sidelined for the first five weeks of the season with a calf injury, despite being the emergency quarterback for Pittsburgh. The last few days marked the first time he has practiced fully all season, although Tomlin noted earlier this week that Wilson’s representatives would be coming with the scout team.
Wilson said this week that he “will be ready to play if called upon.” play at a high level.”
Through five games, Fields has completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 961 yards with five touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 172 yards with three touchdowns.
Pittsburgh’s full injury report with game status will be released later Friday.
