After battling in the NL West all season and being among the best teams in the National League, the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers come down to one game in the National League Division Series.
Game 5 is underway at Dodger Stadium and this series has had a bit of everything, from fans throwing trash onto the field to Dave Roberts accusing Manny Machado of throwing a ball into the Los Angeles dugout to Fernando Tatis Jr., who had an incredible series Shohei Ohtani lets his emotions run wild.
The Padres won eight of the 13 regular-season meetings between these teams in 2024 and have Yu Darvish on the mound in that game against Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Darvish appeared three times against the Dodgers during the regular season; He had a 1.72 ERA over 15 2/3 innings with 12 strikeouts and six walks in those games. He also pitched seven innings and three strikeouts in San Diego’s 10-2 win in Game 2.
Yamamoto made two starts against the Padres earlier this season, including in the season opener in South Korea where he lasted just one inning. In Game 1 of that series against the Padres, he pitched five innings and allowed five runs.
The winner of Game 5 on Friday will host the Mets, who beat the Phillies in their NLDS matchup, in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday.
